2011 Progress Report
2011 has given proof to the idea that out of necessity comes
growth. The year started with the unfortunate news that Felex was
losing his home by government fiat. However, from this bad
situation, the “Ask Me About My Bruises” campaign was formed.
Thanks to all of you “Bruisers” who made the campaign the success that
it has been. Keep spreading the word!
Then, in October, came one of the highlights of my martial arts career,
hosting Iain Abernethy for a weekend-long seminar on the practical
application of karate. This seminar brought people
from all over the US (Connecticut, New York, Florida, Georgia, Texas,
California, Washington, and many others) to Independence, Missouri for
an amazing weekend of training and good times with fellow martial
artists. Also, through the generosity of the Blue River Martial
Arts Club (who donated the proceeds to Karate for Life), Iain (who
donated all of the DVDs sold that weekend), and the seminar
participants (who bought lots of T-shirts), we raised nearly $3000 to
help Felex in the rebuilding process. We’ve now raised enough
money to help him complete the first-stage of the building process and
have enough left over to complete about one-half of the remaining
construction. Thanks so much to all of you who have turned this
year from a rough one into the success that it has been! Let’s
keep pushing forward into 2012.
